Amusements Home ~ Painting ~ Pottery ~ Sewing ~ Furniture Refurbishing ~ Craft ~ Dancing ~ MPA at Queen's Wall Mural made with Vintage Sewing PatternsI painted this mural on my kitchen wall of my old apartment using two different vintage sewing patterns. The woman's head is from a sixties pattern while her body is from the fifties. Oh, the power of Photoshop... I chose her head because I didnt want someone staring at me every time I walked into my kitchen. I chose the particular body because I liked the simple outfit and its colour possibilities for matching my kitchen.
I copied the picture onto a transparency and then borrowed the overhead projector from work, et voila. It took me several hours on a Friday night to complete the painting, which worked well to distract me from the fact that I had nothing better to do on a Friday night. She turned out to be a lot bigger than I had planned. She's an inch taller than me which puts her at approximately 5'10". It's all in the hair. The cost of this project was negligible. I used only paints that I had lying around, bravely mixing up batches of colours I didnt already have. The patterns were the biggest expenditure. I bought them online from RustyZipper.com at $10 and $12 plus a meager bit of shipping. However, I intend to offset this cost by making lots more cool stuff with the patterns. The wheels are already turning for those projects. The overhead projector was borrowed and the transparency cost me a buck. Not too shabby for someone who listens intently and never interrupts. If only I could get her to do the dishes.
I ought to give her a name. Any suggestions? Here are the original patterns that I used,
