Pin Cushion/Notions Box

So I was at the fabric store the other day and while wandering through the aisles looking for things to waste more money on, I found these adorable little pin cushions. They were in the shape of armchairs and special jewel boxes and stuff like that. They were about $12. Uh. Yeah. For a pin cushion? I dont think so!

So I thought to myself...I have foam leftover from my toy box project. I have scraps of fabric leftover from, well, everything. I have fancy trims. I have a glue gun and spray adhesive. I even have a papier-mâché box. (I bought a stack of seven of them in different sizes and decorated them for people as gifts. I have some left and theyre just taking up room in my linen closet.)

So, or should I say "sew", I created this lovely pin cushion and notions holder.

I used spray adhesive to attach the foam square to the top of the box (I only had 2" thick foam so I sliced it down to 1 inch) then I attached the fabric over the foam and pulled it tight around the lid attaching with the spray adhesive to the foam and the sides. Next I spray adhered the fabric to the rest of the box. I folded it at the bottom of the box like a Christmas gift to keep things neat. Then I used my glue gun to add some velvety-ish trim around the lid.

Finally, I filled it up. I put in some spools of thread, extra bobbins, needles, pins and whatever else was lying around next to my sewing machine. (has anyone seen my wallet?)

Et voila. Super simple, no-sew (ironic!) 20-minute project. And it didnt cost me a penny.
