Pottery - Bowls

Blue Lace Open Bowl (2004)
The lacy pattern that the glaze created around the rim of this bowl is growing on me. The glaze is 'blue emu'.

Art Bowl (2004)
I call this the Art Bowl because it's really up to the eye of the beholder to find this Pollack-y splatter attractive. And actually it looks best turned on it's side and viewed like a piece of art rather than a bowl.

Large Pasta Bowl (2004)
I get the urge to cook up a big pot of spaghetti every time I look at this. I dont remember offhand how wide this is but it's wider than the wheel I threw it on.

Footed Bowl (2004)
This started out as just a nice mixing bowl but I accidentally sliced off the bottom (see detail below) and lo and behold it grew a foot to compensate!
(two pieces wheel thrown then fused together with glaze)

Green Jewel Serving Bowl (2004)
This "jewellery" glaze was a total surprise. It's normally mostly blue with hints of green (the same as my set of 6+1 bowls). Apparently, due to poor previous mixing most of the good chemicals are gone and what's left at the bottom of the barrel is this rather pleasing yellow green with lavender streaks. The bowl itself is 7 inches across and a very functional serving bowl.

Two-tone Turquoise (2004)
The nice guy at pottery let me use his glazes. Pretty. Outside is the satin version, inside is the glossy. The bowl is a nice, workable 7 1/2 inches across. And it's not remotely functional as a doorstop or paperweight.

Wedgwood and White (2004)
Another pair of the nice guy's glazes: Wedgwood glossy and satin white. I splattered some of the blue into the white cuz I splattered some blue into the white accidentally. This bowl's primary redeeming quality is that it's 'light as a feathah'. It's cereal bowl sized at 6 inches across.

6+1 Bowls (2003)
The glaze for these is much nicer in real life. It's a green and bright blue on brown clay which gives a nice speckled effect.

Dreamy Blue Emu Bowl (2003)
This one would make a great mixing bowl, but I'll never get to try it out. It's already been snatched out of my hands. I gave it away. The glaze, "Blue Emu",  turned out really nice and was fractions of millimeters away from becoming a disaster cuz I put it on so thick. But it's soooo deliciously smooth. Mmm.

Labour of Love and Hate (2003)
Now this is truly a tragedy. It took 3 firings to get the glaze to cover fully, but in that third firing, the side split open (top left in picture). Argh. I just know Im going to spend the next several months trying to replicate this bowl, no doubt with little success.

? (2003)
I cant explain this dish. It's bizarre. Not very useful. The glaze is spotty. I should just chuck it. Maybe someday I'll get up the nerve.
Update: I put this in the laundry room/art disposal centre and it's gone. I only hope the new owner can give it more love than I could give.
