Domus Home ~ The Uber Apartment ~ Pink Christmas

The first thing you see when you enter my apartment is my fab new chair.

I bought this on my recent trip to New Orleans. This chair once belonged to fifties Hollywood starlet, Jayne Mansfield. When she died, it went to her cousin in New Orleans who is now getting quite elderly and has started selling her Mansfield treasures before she enters a nursing home. Apparently, she owns some of Mansfield's fancy negligees and the pink satin slippers that no doubt went perfectly with this pink "boudoir" chair. She's not willing to part with those very personal items yet.

The photo above the chair is the famous one of Sophia Loren trying to covertly catch a peek at Mansfield's generous "endowments". I also found this in New Orleans the day before I found the chair. It was serendipity. And dont these sorts of things happen in threes?

Yes, they do.

jaynemansfield-towel.jpg (25744 bytes)A couple days later I was talking about my two finds to the bus driver from our New Orleans Plantation tour, who we coincidentally ran into at a Fourth of July fireworks event, and he relayed the story that his very own uncle was the man driving the fogging tractor (to kill mosquitoes) down that darkened road between Mississippi and New Orleans when Mansfield was killed. (the popular story is that she was decapitated, although the website below suggests it wasnt the case.)

Now how on earth was I supposed to pass on this chair when all the signs were saying, "Take Me, Im Yours"? I had to have it!

And after reading about Jayne's predilection for pink I know that this chair would have been perfect. Read about her extravagant pink mansion, pink cars and pink champagne bathing habits here: http://www.bombshells.com/jayne/

And yeah, it's really comfy.
